Cybersecurity will Humble You!
You cannot be in this cybersecurity profession and not have been humbled. Not even once? or twice? or maybe three times in a week? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Okay, let’s talk about it.
Hello UG Readers;
Happy New Month!💃💃💃💃
I am starting this month with been intentional about so many things including this newsletter hence my word for the month is “Intentional”.
I will let you all know how it goes by the end of the month.😊😊😊
What is this Again?
“Ha!”
“Nawa o!”
“What is this one again?”
This are the few expressions I have had in the past few months just because it feels like everyday I see something new in this field and I have to start asking questions from people and of course, Google.
From Pro. To a Learner
If you are in the cybersecurity profession, I am sure you can relate to this. I feel like it is tech. in general but I will just stick to the cybersecurity bit.
You start your journey, continue learning and you become so good at something and boom, one day you wake up and you are working on something you almost have no idea about.
Like, I mean I was doing security with a close of my eyes some few days ago (yes, e no dey last).
First there is the evolving nature of security where what was obtainable two months ago no longer work because the threat landscape has changed, and you need to review and do a retouch of what you know or what you had previously done. This is not even the problem; you are practically just building on the previous knowledge/information which may take lesser time (I hope).
The “Omo!” moment is when you have to do something entirely new e.g. From Security operations to Application Security.
Ha!
What is all of this thing? Lmao
So you mean I don’t know this thing like that? 😭😭😭😭 - Okay, I am being dramatic 🤣🤣
Asking Questions
I feel like I have asked some “foolish questions” in the past couple of months and thinking about it, I have more coming. I mean, I always ask “foolish questions”.
I don’t like to make assumption. It is easy to say “I think this is the way it is done”.
Are you thinking or you know?
Please don’t be “thinking” in an organisation’s environment when implementing security. Either you know it or you don’t before you think into doing something off.
The idea really is to ask as many questions as you can. It might sound small and unnecessary or you may be tempted to find a way around it on your own but why waste the time if you already have people who have been there before who you can ask and talk to.
Ask all the questions, it only helps you get better.
Keep Learning
Everyday is a new opportunity to learn and be better. The ability to be able to learn is all you need to continue and at the top of your game or maybe at least be on the same level with your game - I am sure you know what I mean or not😉😉
I am leaving you all with this “You cannot always be perfect or know everything. Allow yourself to learn because it is the only way you can keep getting better” - Okay , I said this one sha because this has been the words I say to myself.
Ciao and talk to you soon!
