Is this a Growth Process ?
I panic a lot of time when I have some work to do and I always wonder why but recently, I noticed that only happens when it is something I do not have solid knowledge about. Part of my growth process?
I am not going to ask who missed me but it feels good to be writing to you all again💙💙💙.
It is how I opened my notepad and wrote this letter for me😀😀 because there was an interesting conversation going on in the CyberGirls 1.0 Alumni group chat. I mentioned how I wished more people shared their story and I remembered I wanted to share this with you all
On Growth.
Did you experience panic on your first cybersecurity task?
“Can I do this”?
“What if I get it wrong”?
“What if my mistake becomes expensive”?
So many “what ifs” and sleepless night .
What happened the second, third, fourth and other times you had to do the same thing?
There was ease right?
Like “Yes, I got this” - That is what progress feels like
I still panic every time I get involved in a project I don’t have solid knowledge about. - Solid Knowledge is relative
At first, I was not sure why I panic at some work until I figured it out and I think it is worse if you love to do excellent work and not the “Just manage it”.
A short Story
I was assigned a project few weeks ago and I started panicking. I panicked so much that I did not start the project on time (Lost One week because I used it to think🤣🤣🤣) – I was thinking of the worst-case scenario.
Everyone said I could do it and I keep thinking “What if I cannot”
I was so exhausted from thinking about it that I started to talk to people, and I got Ideas on how to go about it.
This made me a bit relaxed, but I was still scared. Fast forward to last week, I completed the project, and everyone said I did a “great Job”.
Me: Awwwnn!! 😊😊😊
What does this mean for me?
For me it means,
1. I have learnt something new.
2. The next time I have to do the same thing , It will be so much easier .
3. I am in a different growth phase .
I am now learning that for every time I panic on getting things done , it is because I have not perfected the art of doing it and it is part of my “Growth Process”
If you are currently panicking because you are not sure what you are doing and if you will do it well, talk to people, start doing it and do not let the fear of getting it wrong stop you.
Don’t worry about failure. Worry about the chances you miss when you don’t even try - Sherman Finesilver.
