I hope you are having a great year so far. As you know this is my second month for the year 2024.
It is 12:32pm , May 12 2024. I just got back from training for a mini marathon I found myself registering for . I cannot explain how I found myself doing it.
Actually, I can🤣🤣🤣😀😀.
If you know me , you will know how much I hate to leave my house but I am trying to change that as much as possible going forward.
Asides that, I also want to be very intentional about finding and exploring other activities I can enjoy outside of cybersecurity. I promise , the plan is not to sound like an “Aspire to inspire to require before you retire“ in this news letter.
Mini-Marathon Training ? - How did I get here?
I am hardly on Spotify but sometime on Friday night I decided to just listen-in while doing some chores.
Boom! An ad came up and I heard that there is an upcoming Women’s Mini Marathon. I paused the music and off I went to look it up .
I was like “Okuur” , this looks like fun” but on the other hand I was also reminding myself how lazy I am at these things . I mean, I had to be honest with myself as well.
I saw there was a fee and I know deep down that the moment I have to pay for it, I am going all out for it. “My money cannot waste”🫣🫣
I dropped a message in one of my favorite women’s group with an “Why am I about to register for a women marathon" and wheww everyone said DO IT! - Motivation don set!!
“Registered , I did!”
…but I have to train! Febi reminded me . “These are the issues” I said to myself .
To Train or to Not?
I don’t really have a choice about this because it is part of the terms and condition for the event. Also , I cannot afford to gamble on something I have never done before without practice.
I started planning on how I will go about the training. I had to put into consideration that the event is in 4 weeks .
On Saturday evening I had a plan ! - Train for the 10km mini marathon (I only wanted to train for a 5km for a start tho)
To achieve this, I will have to wake up early but did I wake up early, No🤣🤣🤣 - In my defense I slept late .
To Start Late or To not Start?
I woke up around 10 am and I was really discouraged as I felt it was too late to start. My plan was to start by 6am or 8am at the latest.
While I was making up my mind to try again on Sunday, I asked myself “Isn’t it better to start late rather than not starting at all?” - There! that was my motivation to get up and get started .
Learning Point for Me
It is so easy and comforting to not do something because you feel like it is late already . Remember today is the earliest you can get !
Do not waste today because of your conviction that it is too late . Do it!
I want to constantly have this at the forefront of my mind and I think you all should as well.
In case you are wondering , how does this relate to your career ? - It is everything because your personal life and habit does impact your career as well.
Back to My Mini Marathon😁😁😁😁
I did the 10km training(3 times as at today 26 May, 2024) and I am super proud of myself! Also, as I typing this, I cannot feel my legs🤣🤣🤣.
Will I continue training? - Of course yes
I will definitely update you all on how it goes .
